2025 Year in Review: A Record Year for New York Lumber

MS

Mike Sullivan

Owner

As 2025 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been the busiest and most rewarding year in New York Lumber's history. The numbers tell part of the story, but the projects and people behind them tell the rest.

By the Numbers

  • 240,000+ board feet of reclaimed lumber processed and sold — a 33% increase over 2024
  • 120+ tons of wood diverted from landfills
  • 300+ projects supplied across the five boroughs and tri-state area
  • 3 new team members added (David, Maria, and Kevin — already making a huge impact)
  • 1 warehouse expansion completed, adding 30% more inventory and processing capacity

Standout Projects

Every project we work on is meaningful, but a few from this year stand out: the Chelsea gallery timber columns, the SoHo office ceiling, the Tribeca loft renovation, and several Brooklyn brownstone restorations that matched original historic flooring with our reclaimed heart pine inventory. We also supplied material for two LEED-certified commercial projects and a major hotel renovation in Midtown.

Industry Trends We're Watching

The shift toward low-embodied-carbon building materials continues to accelerate. NYC's Local Law 97 is pushing developers to rethink material choices, and we're seeing more specification of reclaimed lumber in projects that would have used new materials just a few years ago. We expect this trend to intensify in 2026 as embodied carbon regulations tighten.

What's Next

In 2026, we're planning several improvements:

  • Expanded custom milling capabilities, including wider capacity for slab work
  • An online inventory browser where customers can view available material with photos and specifications
  • Partnerships with additional demolition contractors to expand our sourcing network
  • Educational workshops on working with reclaimed wood, hosted at our Long Island City facility

Thank You

None of this is possible without the contractors, architects, designers, DIY enthusiasts, and homeowners who choose reclaimed lumber for their projects. You're not just buying wood — you're participating in a more sustainable approach to building, and you're preserving the material history of New York City. Thank you for trusting us with your projects this year. We're looking forward to an even bigger 2026.
